A Tour of The High Line Section 2

This week the much anticipated Section 2 of the High Line opened. On Friday, I had a chance to walk the length, enjoy the newest section of the promenade and see what is happening with the real estate in the area.  There is definitely more of an industrial feel to the westerly neighborhoods.  Up close, many of the buildings are so close it is them that offer a backdrop of activity to those on the High Line instead.

I bet you'll recognize many of the buildings from the real estate blogs and articles (such as you'll find over at Curbed NY.  Have a look straight away at the pictures then.  Actually, my favorite part of the walk came at the end.  No, not the beer garden or the zany art installation in the empty lot on West 30th.  At the far north end, I peered out over the expanse headed west toward the water.  I can envision the changes - including new development - that will occur in these surrounding blocks over the next 15 years.  All along this western edge, there was plenty of building activity evident.  Today, I'm sure these pictures are but the first of many more excursions as new buildings and developments begin to take shape.

I've matched the buildings with street addresses and named photos accordingly.  Then, I got all into it and mapped out the buildings as a google map.

I've arranged the photos from south to north, although I originally entered around 23rd street, walked to 30th street before doubling back down to 20th street.

Bottom Line:  It's a fabulous walk, with a new view on many buildings in the Western Chelsea neighborhood...Love it or hate it, the buildings around the High Line are tough to ignore.
