In Search Of: Thompson Street

I desperately needed to walk off the Monkey Bread from Friday night.  What a better way to multi-task than to explore an area near the James Hotel on foot.  I recently worked the streets of SoHo for a rental client.  I remembered positive feel of Thompson Street, so that became my focus.

Thompson Street Fast Facts
*51 Rental Buildings
*18 co-ops
*4 condos
*3 single/multi-family houses
*2 mixed-use buildings

What's on the Market on Thompson Street?
A surprising variety of apartments for sale, given the number of rentals.
....condos
*A contract is signed for the penthouse at 54 Thompson.  This sublime duplex was featured on "SELLING NEW YORK."
*Contract signed at 65 Thompson for a 2 bed/2bath penthouse
*Available rental at the Broadway House (104 Thompson aka 426 West B'way)
*A studio and a 1-bedroom condo are each available at 184 Thompson

...coops
* Several well-priced 1-bedrooms in coops sprinkled throughout
* 124 Thompson offers a studio with a historical layout as well as a thoroughly modern 1 bedroom
* Gorgeous arched windows at 140 Thompson, but alas, no active listings

Conclusion:  Thompson Street offers somethings for every price range.

My pick is the 2 bedroom at 105 Thompson St:
*Eclectic blend of old and new that perfectly embodies the neighborhood
*Clearly defined uses for thoughtfully organized space
*Layout that tucks private quarters away from public areas
*Extra bathroom is plus plus!

David Burke Kitchen at 23 Grand St inspired this neighborhood roundup.
